Digital technology and AI are changing how people learn, how employers work and how skills providers need to operate. For ITP leaders, the question is no longer whether technology matters, but how it can be used strategically to improve learner outcomes, strengthen delivery and build more resilient organisations.
In this webinar, Ben Rowland, CEO of AELP, and Anthony Painter, Director of Strategic Engagement at Ufi VocTech Trust, will share early findings from recent AELP sector research into digital confidence and technology adoption, exploring what this tells us about the current state of the sector, where progress is being made and where there is still untapped potential.
They will discuss what the findings mean for training providers and the need for leadership teams to view digital adoption as part of wider organisational strategy, quality improvement and business performance. Ben and Anthony will be joined by a senior leader from a training provider, sharing their practical reflections on how leaders can support their organisations to better respond to changing learner and employer expectations.
Attendees will hear about the opportunities for providers to build confidence, strengthen leadership and make better use of vocational technology. Cheryl Swales, Head of Strategic Projects, AELP
Cheryl joined AELP in December 2015 as a home-based Project Manager. Cheryl has held various roles within the organisation but more recently moved into the Policy, Projects and Comms Team as Head of Strategic Projects.
Cheryl holds various qualifications relevant to the sector including a BA (Hons) in Education Studies, a Foundation Degree in Work-based Learning , a Level 4 in Project Management and she is also a qualified tutor, assessor and internal quality assurer.

Anthony Painter, Director of Strategic Engagement, Ufi VocTech Trust
Anthony Painter is a prominent policy thinker and strategist whose career has spanned some of the UK's most influential institutions focused on skills, future of work, political economy, and social change.
As Director of Strategic Engagement at Ufi VocTech Trust, Anthony leads efforts to shape the organisation's strategic partnerships and policy influence in the vocational education and technology space to advance Ufi's mission of improving access to learning for adults, particularly those underserved by traditional education pathways.
Prior to joining Ufi, Anthony was Director of Policy at the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), and Chief Research and Impact Officer at the RSA where he led social and policy impact programmes from 2016 to 2022.
Anthony was previously a Board member of Hackney Community College and New City College.
Ben Rowland, CEO, AELP
Ben is passionate about skills and learning. Starting early in his career, Ben knows first-hand about the power of independent training providers in delivering vital outcomes for learners and employers alike.
Ben was the founder of Arch Apprentices in 2012. Arch pioneered new apprenticeships and new delivery approaches as he helped Arch to grow to be one of the country's biggest training providers. Arch was judged Outstanding by Ofsted in 2016. In that time, Ben lived through the challenges that Independent Training Providers experience day to day, as well as the excitement and rewards that come from delivering real impacts. Ben also sat on the Department for Education's Apprenticeship Stakeholder Board for five years and has insight and experience working with government at both the official and political levels.
