Overview
Quality assurance is about more than demonstrating that processes have been followed or evidence has been collected. As expectations around quality, assessment and inclusion continue to evolve, providers need confidence that their quality systems can show what is actually happening across the learner journey and, crucially, whether learners are learning, developing and making progress.
This interactive workshop will revisit the fundamentals of effective quality assurance and explore how they can be applied across the learner journey, from initial engagement and starting points through learning, assessment, review and support to assessment readiness and progression.
Participants will consider how quality processes can move beyond checking activity and compliance to provide meaningful assurance of learner experience and impact. The workshop will explore how evidence from assessment, learner work, reviews, learner and employer perspectives, support arrangements and other quality activity can be triangulated to build a more rounded picture of progress and identify where further investigation or action may be needed.
Particular attention will be given to making learner progress visible, checking that individual needs and agreed support are understood, implemented and reviewed, and considering whether interventions are making the intended difference.
Assessment readiness will be considered as something developed throughout the learner journey rather than checked only towards its end. Participants will leave better equipped to question what their quality systems are telling them, identify potential gaps in assurance, and strengthen the connection between quality activity, learner progress and continuous improvement.
What you will learn
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Recognise the core principles of effective quality assurance across the learner journey and distinguish between evidence of activity, process and impact.
- Evaluate how effectively learner progress is made visible, using starting points, assessment, feedback, reviews and learner experience to understand what learners are learning and how they are developing.
- Use triangulation and professional curiosity to test the strength of quality evidence, identify inconsistencies and determine where further investigation or action may be needed.
- Consider how individual needs, support and adjustments are assured, including whether agreed approaches are implemented, reviewed and making the intended difference.
- Understand assessment readiness as a progressive process, built throughout the learner journey rather than checked only towards the end.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen quality assurance practice so that it provides greater organisational visibility of learner experience, progress and areas for improvement.
- Translate workshop insights into organisational next steps, identifying priorities for strengthening quality assurance, building shared ownership and embedding improvements across the learner journey.

The workshop will be particularly valuable for those responsible for assuring learner progress, strengthening assessment practice, monitoring the effectiveness of support and ensuring that quality systems provide meaningful organisational insight rather than evidence of process alone.
It is relevant to independent training providers, colleges, employer providers and other organisations delivering apprenticeships and post-16 learning.

Christine has a wide occupational background and has held key roles within apprenticeship provision since 2003. Her knowledge is comprehensive across all aspects of the operational and quality functions and she has an in depth understanding of Ofsted inspection requirements. She is passionate about ensuring that maths and English teaching and support is effectively integrated and value recognised within all training.
