Overview

Stretching and challenging every learner is central to outstanding teaching — yet moving learners beyond simple recall towards genuine analysis, evaluation and creativity is one of the hardest things to do consistently.

This practical, interactive webinar shows how three complementary models can work together to cultivate higher-order thinking in any subject. Facilitator Daniel Beale introduces Bloom's Revised Taxonomy (the type of thinking you are aiming for), Webb's Depth of Knowledge (how deep and complex a task should be) and the SOLO Taxonomy (how well learners connect and transfer ideas), then shows how to combine them into a single, workable framework.

Using worked examples you will experience higher-order thinking as a learner, identify the cognitive demand of your own lessons, and adapt an activity to build in greater stretch. The session closes with practical techniques for using questioning ladders and feedback to push learner thinking further.

You will leave with a clear mental model, ready-to-use strategies and the confidence to raise the level of challenge across your curriculum.

What You Will Learn

  • Explore the key models of higher-order thinking — Bloom's Revised Taxonomy, Webb's Depth of Knowledge and the SOLO Taxonomy
  • Review three practical strategies for embedding higher-order thinking in your own subject
  • Re-design a lesson or activity to build in higher-order skills
  • Use questioning and feedback techniques to stretch and challenge learner thinking

Why Attend?

Because raising the level of challenge is one of the most reliable ways to improve outcomes — and one of the hardest to get right. You will leave with three ready-to-use strategies, a simple framework for planning challenge into any lesson, and renewed confidence in questioning and feedback that pushes every learner further.
