Supporting Adult Learners – Clarifying Responsibility and Practice
Overview
Even with limited learner contact, your role in safeguarding matters.
This 60-minute Safeguarding Awareness Webinar is designed specifically for staff in post-18 education and training who have minimal or ad hoc interaction with learners — such as assessors, visiting tutors, employers, or administrative staff.
You’ll gain the knowledge and confidence to understand your safeguarding responsibilities, recognise potential risks, and know what to do if you have a concern — ensuring you meet your organisation’s policy and procedural requirements.
By the end of the session, you’ll have a clear understanding of how safeguarding applies in your role and how you can contribute to keeping adult learners safe.
What you’ll learn
Gain a practical understanding of key safeguarding principles and how they apply in real situations:
- Safeguarding frameworks – Understand the key legislation, statutory guidance, and local procedures that shape good practice.
- Defining safeguarding – Clarify what it means to safeguard adult learners and who may be considered “at risk.”
- Recognising abuse – Explore the different types and indicators of abuse through real-world examples.
- Understanding vulnerability – Learn what makes adults more vulnerable and how to recognise the signs.
- Responding to concerns – Know exactly what to do if you’re worried about a learner, including when and how to escalate concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or Team.
- Mental capacity & information sharing – Understand how mental capacity impacts safeguarding decisions and when it’s appropriate to share information ethically.
