Filton and Bradley Stoke MP visits Association of Employment and Learning Providers

Jack Lopresti, Member of Parliament for Filton and Bradley Stoke, has visited the Association of Employment and Learning Providers (AELP) to discuss the main issues facing the skills sector – and his work as co-chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Apprenticeships.

AELP’s head office is located in Jack Lopresti’s constituency, where he has been the MP since 2010. During the meeting, Mr Lopresti heard about some of the main issues facing the skills sector at the moment. This included rising costs of delivering training, the government’s review of qualifications at level 2 and below, and functional skills funding.

Mr Lopresti also had the opportunity to meet three of AELP’s apprentices – Gabby, Chris and Jessica – and to talk about his role as co-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Apprenticeships including their inquiry into apprenticeships in the Ministry of Defence. More information about the work of the APPG on Apprenticeships can be found on their website.

“We were delighted to invite Jack to visit our team and our offices here in Bradley Stoke. As co-chair of the APPG on Apprenticeships, we know Jack is well aware of the power of work-based learning. We were pleased to get this opportunity to talk to him about some of the issues our members have raised with us in recent months. As an organisation we are keen to lead by example when it comes to employing apprentices, so we were delighted to be able to introduce Jack to Gabby, Chris and Jessica. We hope Jack will continue to be a champion for apprenticeships and we look forward to working with him in the future.”

Jane Hickie, AELP Chief Executive

“It was great to meet with AELP in Bradley Stoke. AELP are a fantastic organisation based in my constituency, who represent a range of training providers across the country. These providers deliver a wide range of vocational learning and training for the benefit of many thousands of businesses and learners. It was great to meet the team, especially their apprentices. I look forward to continuing to work closely with AELP, particularly on government policy.”
