Overview
Employers are central to apprenticeship success, but involvement can still become transactional, compliance-led or concentrated around reviews and sign-offs. This creates a gap between what is taught, what happens in the workplace and what the apprentice understands about their own progress.
This interactive webinar will help providers move from isolated employer activity to purposeful partnership. Participants will explore how employers can shape relevant learning and authentic workplace tasks, reinforce English, maths and wider workplace capabilities, provide useful feedback and support progression and assessment readiness.
The session will examine what employers, providers and apprentices each need to know, contribute and communicate. Participants will apply a practical diagnostic and identify one realistic improvement to employer conversations, workplace learning or progress-review practice. The emphasis is on employer capability and coherent delivery, not simply increasing contact.
What you will learn
By the end of this session, you’ll be able to:
- Recognise the difference between employer contact, employer activity and meaningful employer contribution.
- Map where employers can strengthen curriculum relevance, workplace learning, core capabilities, feedback and progression.
- Use clearer roles, preparation, workplace tasks and three-way feedback to improve collaboration and make progress visible.
- Apply an employer engagement diagnostic and identify a practical next step for their own provision

Interaction will include polls, chat-based reflection, a short employer-mapping activity and practical scenarios. Breakout rooms may be used if group size and platform arrangements allow.

Designed for people working at practitioner, manager, head-of-service and strategic level in independent training providers, employer-providers, colleges and other organisations delivering apprenticeships.

Intermediate level: suitable for people already working with employers who want to strengthen the purpose, consistency and impact of that engagement.
