Supporting people towards employment increasingly means addressing more than job-search skills alone. Confidence, communication, digital capability, personal development and the ability to adapt can all influence whether learners engage, progress and ultimately move towards sustainable employment or further learning.
For those furthest from employment, the picture can be more complex, with health, transport, personal circumstances and previous experiences of education all potentially affecting participation and progression. At the same time, national skills priorities and increasing devolution are placing greater emphasis on provision that responds to local learner, employer and economic needs.
This webinar will explore what these challenges mean in practice for training providers and other organisations supporting learners towards employment and progression.
NOCN will consider the evidence around learner disengagement and NEETs, the changing policy and skills landscape, and practical principles for creating flexible, achievable and meaningful learner pathways.

Paul brings nearly 20 years of sector experience working across varying roles in the post-16 sector working his way up from Sports Lecturer to Vice Principal. Paul has led on 16-19 education programmes for young people, adult education programmes, English and maths, subcontracting and compliance, quality, high needs funding and most recently apprenticeships.

Warren Cresswell – Product Development Manager, Life Skills, NOCN
Warren is an education and product development professional with over 20 years’ experience across awarding organisations, further education, qualification development, funding policy and stakeholder engagement. As Product Development Manager for Life Skills at NOCN, he leads the development and strategic direction of a broad portfolio spanning employability, personal development, adult skills, digital learning and progression-focused provision.
Previously working in funding and stakeholder roles in further education, Warren has extensive experience of interpreting changing education and skills policy and translating learner, provider, employer and sector needs into practical product solutions. His current work includes leading NOCN’s Life Skills strategy and the refresh of its employability offer, with a particular focus on flexible pathways that support engagement, achievement and progression.
