Cheryl Swales, Head of Strategic Projects, AELP

Cheryl joined AELP in December 2015 as a home-based Project Manager. Cheryl has held various roles within the organisation but more recently moved into the Policy, Projects and Comms Team as Head of Strategic Projects.

Cheryl holds various qualifications relevant to the sector including a BA (Hons) in Education Studies, a Foundation Degree in Work-based Learning , a Level 4 in Project Management and she is also a qualified tutor, assessor and internal quality assurer.

Dr Gareth Thomas, Founding Director, NCFE

Gareth has held a number of senior roles in the skills sector on behalf of Government. Gareth’s role’s included Director of Integrated Employment and Skills for the Learning and Skills Council, leading pre-employment programme design and implementation nationally for the Skills Funding Agency, and Head of the Area Relationship Team (East Midlands), overseeing the quality and performance management of many Colleges and Training providers across the East Midlands (including Apprenticeship delivery).

Gareth is a regular speaker at numerous national conferences and events, and has maintained his close relationship with policy makers. More recently Gareth has supported the Local Skills Improvement Planning Process, working closely with East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire). He has also successfully supported a number of businesses through market entry, growth, diversification and ultimately sale.

Leanne Poole, Head of EPA Operations, NCFE             

Leanne Poole is Head of EPA Operations at NCFE, where she leads the operational delivery of end-point assessment services across a wide range of standards. With a strong background in apprenticeship delivery and assessment, Leanne is focused on maintaining high standards, ensuring compliance, and enhancing the experience for both providers and apprentices.

Leanne works closely with providers to help them understand the operational implications of apprenticeship reforms and how to embed best practice within their programmes. Her hands-on experience and sector knowledge make her a trusted voice for those preparing to implement the upcoming changes with confidence.
