Overview
The first weeks of an apprenticeship shape everything that follows.
A rushed, compliance-heavy or generic induction can increase anxiety, mask support needs and create early disengagement. In contrast, a structured and inclusive onboarding journey builds confidence, belonging and clarity, reducing friction before it becomes a retention issue.
Under the current Ofsted framework, inspectors increasingly focus on how providers identify and respond to learner needs from the outset. This includes early identification of SEND and SEMH needs, meaningful safeguarding and Prevent education, clear expectations around Maths, English and Digital Skills, and coherent progression pathways supported by effective CEIAG.
This interactive webinar explores how providers can move beyond information-heavy induction to create onboarding experiences that actively support participation, engagement and progression.
Participants will explore practical approaches to:
- Building psychological safety and belonging
- Identifying support needs early without stigma
- Introducing core skills as capability rather than compliance
- Making safeguarding and careers education visible and relevant
- Establishing learner voice and feedback mechanisms from the start
What you will learn
By the end of this session, you’ll be able to:
- Design more inclusive induction journeys that build confidence, belonging and clarity from day one.
- Identify early indicators of disengagement, vulnerability and additional support needs and respond proactively.
- Embed safeguarding, careers education (CEIAG) and core skills expectations in ways that feel meaningful and relevant to learners.
- Apply practical approaches that support neurodiverse, disadvantaged and underrepresented apprentices.
- Identify immediate improvements that strengthen learner engagement, retention, progression and inspection readiness.
