Core Skills as Organisational Capability: Rethinking Maths and English in Apprenticeships

10:00 - 11:30 am, 09/04/2026

From bolt-ons to coherence — building confident, inspection-ready systems

Overview

Why This Webinar Matters Now

Maths and English are no longer qualifications to “get through” or compliance boxes to tick. They are visible indicators of leadership quality.

Under the current Ofsted framework, providers are expected to demonstrate:

  • Coherent contextualisation across programmes
  • Clear, structured support for learners without Level 2
  • Reduced repeat Functional Skills attempts
  • Inclusion embedded through confident staff practice
  • Learners who can clearly articulate how core skills improve workplace performance

Yet in many organisations, Maths and English remain fragmented — owned by specialists, bolted onto delivery plans, or hurriedly reviewed when inspection looms.

This approach is no longer sustainable. Coherence is now a strategic expectation.

What you will learn

What This Strategic Webinar Will Explore

This session moves the conversation from delivery to design.

We’ll examine what confident, inspection-ready Maths and English development looks like — whether or not a formal qualification sits within the programme.

Together, we’ll explore how to:

  • Map core skills across the full learner journey
  • Align curriculum intent, employer engagement and progress reviews
  • Reduce friction for reluctant or anxious learners
  • Strengthen staff confidence and shared ownership
  • Use digital tools and AI responsibly to scaffold learning
  • Shift from compliance-driven provision to organisational capability

You will leave with a clear diagnostic lens and practical tools to evaluate and strengthen your current approach.

By the end of this webinar, you will be able to:

  • Define Maths and English as organisational capability — not just qualification provision
  • Identify systemic gaps across recruitment, onboarding, delivery and review
  • Strengthen contextualisation across sectors and standards
  • Reduce repeat Functional Skills cycles through confident embedding
  • Align core skills development with inspection expectations and progression outcomes
  • Leverage digital tools, including AI, to enhance scaffolding and learner engagement
