Higher Skills and Degree Level Special Interest Group 

 

 

 

Chaired by Daniel Lally (Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Sheffield Hallam University), this SIG explores employer demand, regulatory requirements, qualification pathways and expectations for higher and degree-level apprenticeships. Sessions also cover new trends, sector shifts and timely issues influencing higher-level provision.

Dan is a member of the University's Executive Board, responsible for activity relating to diversification and partnerships at the University. Dan has strategic and operational responsible for activity such as apprenticeships, collaborative provision, lifelong learning (including online and CPD) and placements. Dan also acts as Managing Director for SHU’s London Campus.

Dan is a member of various skills and employment advisory boards across South Yorkshire, including the South Yorkshire Skills Advisory Board, as well as being Chair of the Higher Skills and Degree Apprenticeship Special Interest Group for the Association of Employment and Learning Providers (AELP). He is a member of the UCAS Council and a non-executive Director of Sheffield Business Improvement District (BID) and the University Vocational Awards Council (UVAC). 

 

Prior to joining the University in 2018, Dan had extensive experience in the private sector working for both large-corporate and family-run-specialist organisations. He has led teams across a breadth of services including delivery and operations, regulatory and compliance, sales and marketing and corporate services.

Dan describes himself as the ‘product of work-based learning’, having completed early career apprenticeships in hospitality, customer service and business administration and having most recently completed a Senior Leader Apprenticeship, achieving an MBA, at Sheffield Hallam.
