Essential Skills: AELP Special Interest Group - Maths, English and Digital
Led by Chris Briggs (Product Manager for Post-16 English, Maths and Digital Skills, Pearson), this SIG focuses on policy updates, curriculum design, assessment challenges and delivery models for essential skills. Members share effective practice and explore ways to improve learner progress, alongside discussion of emerging priorities and topical developments affecting essential skills provision.
I have spent the last twenty-five years working in education across schools, colleges and private training providers focusing on English and maths. For the last ten years I have worked for Pearson as the Product Manager for Post 16 English, Maths and Digital. During this time, I have also taken a keen interest in SEND support too. Working as the Chair for the AELP SIG English, Maths and Digital is my way of continuing to support the sector that developed my skills over the years. There are lots of challenges around English, maths and digital skills at the moment and my vision for this group is to come together and share our experiences so we can face these challenges head on and continue to do our best by our learners.
