Overview

A great board doesn’t just happen. It’s built—through trustees who are motivated, diverse, and driven by purpose. But finding the right people (and keeping them engaged) can be a real challenge.

Join us for this practical webinar and discover how to:

  • Reach beyond your usual networks to attract fresh talent
  • Write role descriptions that inspire people to step forward
  • Run an open, inclusive process that brings in the right mix of skills and perspectives
  • Welcome and support new trustees so they feel confident, engaged, and effective

You’ll leave with clear steps, fresh ideas, and the confidence to build a stronger, more dynamic board—one that reflects your community and drives your organisation forward. Don’t just fill seats around the table. Build a board that makes a difference.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Identify gaps in your board’s skills, perspectives, and experience.
  • Apply effective strategies to recruit beyond your usual networks.
  • Create inclusive role descriptions and transparent processes that inspire candidates.
  • Build supportive onboarding and development practices for new trustees.
  • Foster a culture of engagement that keeps trustees motivated long-term.
  • Enhance your organisation’s governance capacity through a resilient, diverse board.

Facilitators

Sarah Atkins Boal, Head of FE Appointments, Peridot Partners

Sarah is Head of Further Education Appointments at Peridot Partners, where she leads on senior leadership and governance recruitment across the FE sector. With more than 25 years’ experience, Sarah specialises in connecting colleges, sixth forms and learning providers with inspiring leaders and trustees who can shape strong, future-focused organisations.

Her career has been anything but linear—spanning roles from mortgage advising to large-scale procurement and recruitment—which gives her a unique perspective on people, leadership, and organisational culture. Sarah is particularly passionate about strengthening governance in education and widening access to trustee and governor opportunities, helping boards reflect the communities they serve.

At Peridot, she brings energy, expertise, and a people-first approach to building resilient leadership teams that drive meaningful change.

Dan Baxter, Principal Consultant, Peridot Partners

This passion led him to join Peridot, where he works with colleagues and clients who share the same ambition. Building relationships with people who care about the communities they serve; Dan meticulously searches to find exceptional leaders who will champion and inspire.
