The Power of Tiny Gains: Simple Strategies to Build Practical Literacy and Communication Skills
AELP Webinar
Facilitator: Sam Woodland, Pick ME Consulting
Overview
Small changes can have a big impact.
In the wake of changes to Functional Skills requirements, it's more important than ever for providers to embed core literacy and communication skills into vocational delivery — especially for 19+ apprentices.
This practical webinar explores how to make gradual, targeted improvements to learners' written and spoken communication that add up over time. Using the concept of “tiny gains”, we’ll look at how to build skills in a way that aligns with employer expectations, inspection frameworks, and learner goals — all without overwhelming your delivery.
Objectives
You’ll learn how to:
- Set and track simple literacy and communication goals with learners
- Embed relevant skills into vocational delivery (e.g. vocabulary, SPAG, transactional writing, summarising)
- Use dynamic, contextualised delivery to improve learner engagement
- Enhance learner confidence, employability and progression
- Meet Ofsted expectations through everyday practice, not add-ons
“A 1% improvement every day for a year makes you 38x better by the end of it.” – James Clear
