Understanding the Mental Capacity Act is crucial for anyone involved in the care, treatment, and support of individuals aged 16 and over in England and Wales who can't make some or all decisions for themselves. It's designed to protect and empower these vulnerable individuals. The MCA also helps those with capacity to plan for their future, applicable to everyone over 18. The Act's five principles are essential and must guide all actions and decisions, including in relation to safeguarding.
