Lobbying the new Parliament: support from AELP members needed

Parliament is expected to return after the Christmas break around 6 January and we ask that AELP members make contact with their local MPs as early as possible to help lobby on the vital skills issues. It is completely valid to lobby any local MP where you deliver training (e.g. for a local employer) and not just where you have an office or centre. Contact with Cabinet and other relevant ministers would be particularly welcome. AELP has updated its ‘How to Build Relationships with Local MPs’

AELP has voiced long standing concerns about the scalability of end point assessment (EPA). To date the numbers of apprentices who have completed their end test are (at around 5,000) still relatively very small. In 2019 the numbers due to undertake their end test will see a significant ramp-up. Many of the new Apprenticeship standards make reference to reasonable adjustments but stipulate that you should refer to the EPAO Reasonable Adjustment Policy. Having carried out a review these differ and in some cases do not yet exist which does not give a valid, reliable and manageable approach to supporting individuals with support needs.
