AELP CEO Mark Dawe has written to Damian Hinds, the new Secretary of State for Education, congratulating the minister on his appointment. Damian Hinds has a track-record of commitment to improving social mobility and the letter enclosed an updated version of AELP’s summary paper on social mobility which had previously been circulated during last autumn’s party conference season. The paper explains how DfE apprenticeship and traineeship policies are actually working against social mobility, particularly for those in local communities most in need of support and who require access to lower levels of learning. It includes a series of recommended actions to restore the balance of the reforms in favour of increased mobility and AELP hopes that the Secretary of State will respond positively and quickly to them. Below is the updated version of the summary paper.
