AELP’s core apprenticeship message

I am going to keep it simple this week – I keep getting asked what are AELP’s core apprenticeship messages (mainly by those that aren’t providers). So here goes – and these haven’t changed for a while:

Levy / Levy employers – good – demand led system, £2.5bn of funding, driven large company engagement, amazing new opportunities particularly at higher and degree level, additional support when levy used up, hopefully register anomalies sorted this week.

Non Levy / SME employers – bad – contracts distorting market, not enough funding, scraps from the levy with no certainty – needs the £1bn commitment -  primes being starved of funds, high quality long term sub-contractors being terminated, irreparable damage especially to specialist provision, regional and sector gaps in provision with loss to social mobility and productivity, put non levy companies onto the apprenticeship system from now on as they take on apprentices, 16 – 18 funding not good enough.

IfA, Standards and EPA – good, bad and ugly - it is in all our interests (and especially employers and learners) to work closely with the IfA to ensure that everything is excellent as quickly as possible, and with the appropriate funding – thus the work AELP are doing and will be doing with providers and end point assessment organisations particularly through the AELP sector groups. But stop making standards available for delivery until the End Point Assessment has actually been in place (not just the organisation who might deliver it).

I hope that is clear!

We will be talking about these themes and many others at the summer conference at the end of June (see below).  I am sure most of our members will want to book with their free place and many others will be keen to come - look forward to seeing as many of you as possible as we get to grips with the post Election skills world.

BREAKING NEWS -  Round two register results have been put out as Countdown was about to be published. We will report in more detail on this next week but do let us know at [email protected] if you still have a problem.
