The Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) is the sector-owned body that aims to accelerate the drive for excellence in the further education and skills sector in England.
LSIS priorities for 2012-2014 will focus on;
• The improvement of teaching and learning
• The development of strong governance, leadership and management
• Rapid and high quality intervention.
These priorities will be delivered by LSIS through the range of improvement services on offer to the further education and skills sector.
LSIS is dedicated to working in partnership with all parts of the sector to build and sustain self-improvement and works closely with sector practitioners in the delivery of what LSIS provides. The LSIS 'New Ways of Working' approach aims to support providers through a range of membership organisations.
LSIS will be working with AELP on the following items:
• AELP will be advising on and assisting with the collection and analysis of workforce data in Work Based Learning
• Supporting AELP members in the transition from Key Skills to Functional Skills from the 2012-2013 academic year
• Supporting AELP members to become LSIS improvement delivery partners through capacity building for both bidding and delivery of LSIS contracts
• To help providers to fully understand the flexible single adult budget, including the priority of apprenticeships.
An LSIS Account is a way for LSIS to offer eligible providers an immediate subsidy mechanism, helping them cover the contribution fees for many of LSIS's events and services.
The main aims of the scheme remain:
• to encourage continued investment and planning for improvement support;
• to alleviate some of the resource pressures for maintaining such essential activity; and
• to help LSIS to gauge sector demand and to create a more responsive offer.
All further education and skills providers that are contracted to deliver training that is funded by the Skills Funding Agency from 1 September 2011 are eligible for an LSIS Account.
